Look After a Toddler at Home

Looking after toddlers is hard! Here at We Buy Any House, we have compiled our top tips on how to look after a toddler at home.

Set Up a Play Area:

Toddlers love to play! And although most parents can spend hours on end playing with their toddler, it’s also a good idea to instill some independence into your baby. Therefore, setting up an independent play area in your home is the perfect idea. In a corner of whichever room you want (or is big enough), create a play pen that is filled with soft toys. By doing this, you can let your baby play safely, without worrying about whether they may fall or touch something that they shouldn’t. Additionally, it will allow you to get things done without being 100% occupied while your toddler is playing.

Instill a Good Home Routine:

Most people thrive off routine- especially children. Therefore, it’s a good idea to get your toddler into a good home routine so they can get used to their day being structured. Although it’s hard to have a toddler at home, it’s worthwhile trying to instill a routine. Keep their bedtimes the same, make sure they brush their teeth at the same time each morning and night etc. By doing this, you will ensure that they get used to having structure in their day.

Ask For Help:

Although most people find it tough to admit that they need help, asking for help is and admitting things have become tough is one of the bravest things to do. When learning to adjust to having a toddler, it can be tricky to try and juggle your life alongside managing theirs. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to say yes to getting help and allowing yourself to have time to do whatever needs to be done.

Try and Align Nap Times:

Trying to co-ordinate your sleep time with your baby’s nap times is an extremely challenging concept, however, if you can manage it then you’re well on your way to saving yourself peace of mind and restoring your sanity. If you successfully manage to co-ordinate your nap times, this will prove a more stable and scheduled approach to sleep for your toddler, as well as allowing you to sleep soundly for an hour or two.

Be Patient:

Unfortunately, when it comes to parenting, there is no short fix to fix to long-term problems. Changing and adapting to your new life as a parent to a toddler is hard- so try and remember that patience is a virtue, not an automatic gift.

Don’t Feel Guilty!

No matter how well you’re doing at raising your toddler- parent guilt is a real thing! Most of the time we compare ourselves to our peers, which only further damages how we can have a distorted view of how capable we are parents. It’s important to remember that raising children is hard- especially toddlers, and that you are doing amazing!
